In South Salem Oregon, I used the Fred Meyers Pharmacy. I had been on Norco (Vicodin) for a year and was refilling a prescription there.

I turned the refill in a week early but my physician knew I was doing it and approved the refill. When I returned they were very snotty with me and said I couldn't refill it early. I told them my physician had approved it, and they said she had to increase the prescription first. So I called her the next day (naturally it was after 5 when they told me this) and she increased it.

They still refused to fill it and the pharmacy TECH even tried to give me medical advice, telling me to take Neurontin instead for pain. I'm a nurse and was instantly pissed, knowing that she was WAY out of her scope of practice to advise me on any medication. I told her I was taking Neurontin for something else and she actually snorted at me and said "of course you are". WTF?

The pharmacy continued to refuse to refill the Norco for 4 more days!! Three more phone calls had been made to my physician's nurse by the time they finally filled it. At one point, they basically accused me of faking the release from my doctor's office. Now how can I do that?

When my husband finally picked up the script, they were rude and condescending to him, cutting him off mid-sentence and treating him with open hostility. For a store that is supposedly bent towards customer service, this was utter BS. I called the store manager who promptly hung up on me.

I am a nurse manager and I guarantee you that we are held to a ENTIRELY different set of rules for customer service.

I was stunned and horrified that this pharmacy was allowed to treat people in this fashion. I filed a complaint on the corporate website, but of course noone returned my call.

Fred Meyers doesn't care about it's customers people. It's as simple as that.

Now that CBD meds are legal in OR, if you can tolerate an NSAID, CBD/THC + NSAIDs, after 2 weeks, work about as well as Norco, at least for me.

Fred Meyer may be the company with the absolute worst business ethics I've ever seen. Especially when it comes to pain medication (or even my seizure meds) from the pharmacy.

As a quick example, Fred Meyer takes the TIPS from the Starbucks coffee employees in their stores.

I'm NOT kidding!

I can get a prescription for Norco filled at Bi-Mart with no problem, as long as the date on the script is correct. I'm SURE they are not the only pharmacy who will do so... But FM seems to check with someone before they fill (or refuse to fill) certain prescriptions.

Does anyone know who they consult to determine whether or not they will fill your prescription for these medications? And why would their policy be to let you suffer instead of filling a completely legal request by a DOCTOR...

or why don't other pharmacies seem to have the same policy?

This is outraging to see their complete lack of sympathy for suffering patients.

It's not only unethical, it seems to me to be completely immoral. They should have a hard time sleeping at night.

I had to go out of town to care for an ill relative and took my pain Rx to FRED MEYER MARYSVILLE WA. I dropped off my prescription at the pharmacy and proceeded to shop while my Rx was being filled.

After several minutes the pharmacy called my cell phone and I was told because I had gone to several different pharmacies in two months they were not going to fill my pain Rx. This made absolutely no sense to me, I was shocked and horrified that they were allowed to deny a customer based on such an *** reason. Apparently if you're a pain patient you're automatically some kind of a suspect if you go to different pharmacies to fill a pain Rx. They treated me like I was some sort of drug dealer.

I was embarrassed, shaken and humiliated when the pharmacist told me in a VERY condescending manner that they would not fill any pain Rx for me in the future.

To be treated in such a shameful manner when I literally had done NOTHING WRONG tells me that something is VERY WRONG with Fred Meyer's store policies. They are judge and jury without verifying any information with my doctor etc...

I informed my doctor what Fred Meyer did and she proceeded to tell me that what they did is quite illegal and legal action should to taken against this company. So if you're a pain patient I would take your Rx else where rather than dealing with these idiots.

I've contacted the ADA office and filed a complaint and am seeking legal counsel as well. Just because we need pain medication doesn't mean we should be disrespected and rejected by people who don't know what the *** they're doing.

This pharmacy is making judgements and rejecting people based superficial and baseless information.

Hi sorry you had those problems. I can relate.

I have had problems

and find its often the individuals attitude sounds like she wanted

to play doctor...maybe low self esteem or needing attention

personality needs i make a point of talking to the

manager and or the general mgr of the store

and if need be the corporate offices and have gotten good results.

I am currently going through the same situation with Fred Meyer in Grants Pass (as 0f 10/25/14). I have a valid prescription that my doctor has verified and they still do not want to fill it timely.

I do plan on fighting back...that is how I found this website.

Presently researching the law. Contemplating taking my grocery shopping elsewhere as well.

I have been through this to but if the doctor refills the the date as prescribed they have to refill no matter what just means insurance may not pay that is all. They can not fight you on this unless it states fill on the date which is not intended for the another date.

When they wright that prescription they have to fill to fill because doctor did agree but they do have to up the dose to match the early refill. I go thought this all the time and I go to Safeway and never has a problem... My doctor has been very good and I have had 4 back surgery and now just did my 5th and doing a taper now so I know what you are going though.

It is hard because your body goes through a chemical addiction which sucks and is hard to over come.... :eek

If you're a nurse you should understand that a patient might have more than one doctor writing narcotics for them. This is why a pharmacy has to check with the doctor to get permission to fill more than a couple of days early.

I know the Dr.

"gave permission" to fill it by writing the rx, but they might not be aware that someone is picking it up earlier than they should, could possible be taking more than they are prescribed, ect.

It sounds like the people at the pharmacy were extremely rude and gave *** customer service in general, so I completely understand being upset about that. I am surprised that a nurse wouldn't understand having to check with the doctor about someone filling their narcotic a week early though.

Kjboethin,

I have been through the same kind of thing through the Kroger Store Pharmacy chain.

Had an early script by two days & they wanted to "file it". Was leaving for a funeral & needed to get my script. They did not want to fill it, on day 28 & insurance would have covered their portion. Even after they called my doctor.

I got in my car & went to some other pharmacies in town & interviewed them for the job of filling our families scripts (since our out of pocket alone was $400 a month, not including what the insurance company paid on the medications, which was a tidy sum each month.). I told the pharmacies what I took & why.

I asked if there was an emergency could I pick up a day or two early with proper prescription. The one that said "Yes." & did not blink or offer me advice about alternatives to pain medicine (cymbalta, neurotin, etc.) was the pharmacy that got my business.

The pharmacy I am at is more a "mom & pop" pharmacy. The majority of the Mom & Pop are glad for the business, know who you are after a time or so & treat you well, get you in & out quickly & generally just treat you well.

I drove back to Kroger, demanded my scripts back (which oddly were being filled at Kroger when I got back a couple hours later.) I made them cancel the transaction, give me my scripts & got them taken to the other pharmacy, then returned to my doctors office & changed the pharmacy on my pain contracts, which my doctor knew I most likely would do as she was aware of what was transpiring with me.

I have been going to the Mom & Pop pharmacy for almost three years now & have not been back in Kroger for ANYTHING.

You don't have to put up with that kind of treatment like you had. This sealed it for me about going to Kroger for anything. I had had trouble once before at this Kroger pharmacy store.

I had filed a Vicodin prescription there several years ago that I filed. Several days later I went to get it filled & it had "disappeared" out of the locked safe. I had to go to the hospital that night as there was no other choice if I wanted to stop hurting.

I recommend a pharmacy change & talk to the potential pharmacies / pharmacist & tell them what you take. If they act in a way you do not like, try another. You will find a good place.

Remember that they are being paid to provide you with your medicine & service.

Good .luck,

Vermin

well, you should prolly count your pills too...my husband and i were both in a terrible wreck and had pain medication and the walmart neighborhood mkt where we live kept *dropping* at least 2 or 3 pills out of our scripts.when i called and complained to the store mgr they said well hold on and went to the pharmacy and came back on the phone within a minute and said their drug count was correct and i must have counted wrong..well,of course their count is right...duh....the pills were falling out of peoples rx and not getting into their bottle.after one more time i missed 4 on that occassion and called again and told them i was reporting them..couldnt find where i could get the pill thiefs in trouble so i started paying more for our drugs by having to switch pharmacies....all because the pharmacist had a drug problem at walmart...imagine that...
